Each format has a different job
MP4 is the simplest choice for finished videos. It is practical for YouTube, Reels, Shorts, TikTok, and quick sharing. WebM is useful when you need a browser-friendly transparent overlay. ProRes is useful when you need high-quality editing files and alpha-channel workflows.
The right export format depends on where the visualizer goes after Varya.

Use MP4 for finished videos
Choose MP4 when the Varya export is the final video. This is the default path for YouTube uploads, social posts, quick sharing, and most creator workflows. Keep audio enabled if the file is the final visualizer video.
MP4 can also work as a lightweight overlay if you export bright visuals on black and use Screen blending in an editor, but it is not true transparency.
- Best for finished music visualizer videos.
- Best for YouTube, Reels, Shorts, and TikTok posts.
- Small enough for practical sharing.
- Can be used as a black-background Screen overlay.
Use WebM or ProRes for transparency
Use WebM when you need transparency in a browser-friendly overlay workflow. Use ProRes when you need a high-quality transparent file for a professional editor. ProRes files are larger, but they are better suited to reusable overlays, client work, and timeline compositing.
If the visualizer must preserve clean transparent edges, choose a real transparent workflow instead of trying to remove black later.

Turn audio off for overlay-only exports
If the export is the final video, keep audio on. If the export is only a visual layer for another timeline, turn audio off unless you need a reference. This prevents doubled audio and keeps the editor timeline cleaner.
A simple rule works well: MP4 for finished videos, WebM for browser-style transparent overlays, and ProRes for professional alpha-channel overlays.
